Nature’s Beauty found in Labradorite
Email This Article To A Friend

It’s truly amazing how certain gemstones can remind us of the beauty found in nature.  And since gemstones ARE found in nature, it is probably no coincidence.  Maybe the colors of the rainbow once faded, settle into the earth, and into beautiful gemstones.  Who knows it’s fun to think of it that way.

Labradorite is one such gemstone that reflects so many of the colors found in things of the outdoors.  This particular stone gives off a flash of iridescent colors.  In gemstone circles, this is known as “labradorescence.”  These flashes of color change according to the angle of light refraction, and may be somewhat metallic tints of blue, green, yellow, and pink, with the majority of the stone itself a dark gray color. Some say if you look at a labradorite stone the right way, it can resemble the wing of a butterfly, or the rich blue-green tail of a peacock.

This pendant features a very strong ocean blue fire high-grade authentic labradorite and a high-grade pendeloque brilliant-cut authentic Brazilian peridot also the combination with other sotnes.  (Item # AJP202309).  Its stunning blues and greens playing off the rich lime green of the peridot and matching with other stones will provide a jolt of oceanic hue to any summer ensemble.

Eskimo legend has it that the Northern Lights were once imprisoned in the rocks along the coast of Labrador, Canada. A wandering Eskimo warrior found them and freed most of the lights with a mighty blow of his spear. Some of the lights were still trapped within the stone however, and thus we have today the beautiful mineral known as labradorite.

Whatever you would believe about the legend, labradorite is named after the Labrador Peninsula in Canada where it was first discovered in 1770.

Labradorite lovers would no doubt quench their passion with this particular necklace.  This extraordinary piece displays seven strong rainbow fire high-grade authentic labradorites, three strong ocean blue fire high-grade tear drop cut authentic labradorites and three strong ocean blue fire high-grade marquise-cut authentic labradorite stones.  (Item # AJN200249).  Three different types of labradorite working in this piece make for a breathtaking color display.

A relatively soft stone, labradorite ranges from 6-6½ on the MOHS scale. Some labradorite can reflect a more greenish tint, or even tints of gold.  Whatever it's color range, labradorite pieces are stunning and can stand up to any emerald or jade piece in the store.
