Moonstone is one of the most captivating gemstones. Not only does a high-quality gem feature incredible fire, it also sports a cool iridescence that makes it one stunning paradox!
Moonstone is the alternate birthstone for the month of June, so consider a moonstone piece for that summer birthday girl. If you aren’t familiar with moonstone, don’t worry. At JeGem.com we have a scale of fire intensity to help you choose the most gorgeous gemstones!
Most of our moonstones have very strong fire, which means they have very bright fire. The brightest fire, however, will be found in our extremely strong fire category. This ranking is designated for the occasional incredibly bright gem. They come along only once in a great while. A strong fire moonstone is less fiery but still quite beautiful. It is usually set with other gemstones, are carved into beads or set with a large number of moonstones.
Fire in moonstones is found in two different colors, sky-blue and rainbow sky-blue. The sky-blue fire stones are often very white with blue iridescence. They also can appear a very bright blue. Rainbow sky-blue fire stones can be primarily white, but they also have other colors of fire besides blue, like gold or pink. The most sought-after color fire, however, is the rainbow sky-blue fire that is found in a predominantly bright blue moonstone.
Look to see if the moonstone peice has backing. Silver backing on a moonstone increases the fire’s intensity, so if you see a moonstone with no backing that is very strong or extremely strong fire, it’s a very clear, near-gem grade quality moonstone.
