Did you know that opal is the good gift for Mother's Day? Of course, many women collect this mysterious, fiery gem in their accessory wardrobe. Opal doublet cabochons reflect a more intense fire than their delicate white counterparts. The doublet means that a harder stone has bee adhered underneath the very fragile opal to make the gem more durable.

Boulder opal is actually white Australian opal mixed in the same vein with iron ore. Creating a cabochon with both adds strength to the opal, making the fragile gem less likely to crack or chip.
