Lapis Lazuli ~ The Lore
Email This Article To A Friend

Lapis lazuli is often referred to as lapis or luzuli.  It is composed of gold pyrite and calcite. Lapis lazuli is a solid blue to a darker blue color, with many shades in between.

Evidence of the first lapis lazuli mines was recorded about 6,000 years ago. At that time, the stone was used both for jewelry and ornamental decorations for royalty.  Lazuli stones were ground to a fine powder for paint and makeup.

The lore of lapis lazuli says that in ancient times, it was used by religious persons, priests, and royalty. Lapis lazuli was associated most often with deep power, wisdom, and inner strength. Lapis lazuli was used to enhance psychic abilities. It was also believed to impart insight and the ability to make decisions.

Lapis lazuli is the birthstone for the month of December and is also a astrological stone for the signs Capricorn and Libra. Lapis lazuli is suggested as a gift for the seventh and the ninth wedding anniversaries.

Lapis Lazuli is believed to open up the inner spirits, your chakras, as well as connect your spirit to a higher spiritual plane. Lapis lazuli calms your mind, enables you to organize your thoughts, dreams, and beliefs. Your creativity is expanded, bringing self-expression to new levels.

Lapis lazuli is believed to provide healing power to the throat and thyroid. It improves speech, hearing, and relieves migraines and joint pain so you can live life more fully.

Lapis lazuli improves awareness of life so that happiness, joy, and peace will find you.
