Wear Jewelry to Work, Without Overdoing It
Email This Article To A Friend

You’ve seen her before the woman at work wearing the wrong jewelry in excessive amounts and crazy color combinations.   Her necklace hangs at the wrong length, too many unmatched bracelets or rings bang against the desk, annoying everyone within twenty feet of her desk with a clicking, clacking distraction.  At times it makes you wonder if she’s really serious about her work or the image she’s trying to project.

Then walks in the woman with the carefully selected onyx earrings and the perfectly matched pendant hanging on a stunning sweater or suit and you can’t help but be envious.  Her careful choice of color, stone, and style projects power, confidence, and taste.  You can tell she knows HOW to wear her jewelry with what outfit. You can tell she’s got superior fashion sense.

Wearing the proper jewelry with the right attire is a learned art. But it’s not impossible to know what jewelry to wear with the right work attire.  According to Sherry Maysonave, founder and president of Empowerment Enterprises, one of America's leading communication-image firms, it’s important to accessorize appropriately, even when dressed down.  She says "most business casual outfits need a boost from jewelry to convey professionalism and authority".

Maysonave says that in addition to your watch and wedding rings, you can safely add these jewelry items and not be overdone: 1) earrings 2) a necklace or a scarf  3) a bracelet 4) one ring, worn on the other hand.  This might include earrings that don’t dangle too low.  For example, this pair of sterling silver high-grade authentic amber earrings (item #AJE201524)would work well. She also advises to wear gemstones in the same tones as much as possible.  Pair those amber earrings with this sterling silver Top-grade authentic amber pendant (item #AJP201404) and you’ve got yourself a classy combination

According to Maysonave, you should choose jewelry that is appropriate for the situation and the time of day.  Labradorite, opal, carnelian, amber, mother of pearl, onyx, and jasper are all conservative colored stones with a classic flair and would work right for the office.  Adding jewelry to your outfits will definitely add panache to your image.   Even if you have long hair, earrings are a must. Necklaces should only be worn if they truly add to the neckline of the outfit. As long as your arm is not stacked up with a bunch of jangling bracelets, a bracelet or two can be appropriate in the workplace.

Have fun wearing jewelry to work.  Choose the stones that match your beautiful suits, blouses, jackets, and sweaters. Remember, less is sometimes more. One or two beautiful, classic matched pieces will show that you’ve got what it takes to succeed.
